Comprehensive Review Unit 6

During this time we will also be reviewing as many previous IB SL topics as possible to prepare for the final and for external testing students May 11-12 exams.  The final exam internally will be on Wednesday May 31 (multiple choice and short answer comprehensive). This is for all IB year two Chemistry students.  Please use your IB study guide as a primary source of review.  There are topic review questions at the end of each chapter.  And use the videos online for quick review as well.  I suggest these Thornley videos in particular, which are on common errors students have made on past IB exams. Another useful channel is MSJ YouTube

Organic Unit 2

Organic Chemistry is amazing, awesome, interesting, complicated and the stuff of life.  Organic chemistry is usually taught as an entire second year college course.  We will focus on basic molecular structure, nomenclature and reaction mechanisms.  We will make soap, flavors and odors, slime, super balls and other polymers. We will do a short periodic trends and bonding review first, and then go into the actual IB SL Organic content.
Study Chapter 10 in Chemistry: Course Companion. Use Central Chemistry Chapter 25 as a reference as necessary.  Watch the Thornley videos for review but use the Khan channel videos for a more in-depth lesson on each topic.

Review Unit 1

WELCOME TO CLEVELAND IB SL CHEMISTRY 2016-17

The work you have done on the summer review packet should be turned in by 9/28.  It will be graded as part of your course topical content.
The purpose of the summer review packet is to involve you in studying topics learned in first year Chemistry as deeply as you can to prepare for your eventual IB SL final examination in May.

The first unit we will continue a review of first year Chemistry. Topics briefly reviewed will include quantitative/stoichiometry, atomic theory, gas laws, periodicity, nomenclature, bonding, equilibrium, as well as acids and bases. The question bank review packet handed out in class will be developed into the unit test. There will be a test on this unit on 9/28. Watch all the posted videos by the day of the test.
You and your parent/guardian should read and sign the safety contract passed out in class and return by 9/1.
